Searching Techniques:
How many job search
techniques do you use?
While looking through
newspaper is a good start there are other options to be
explored.
- The local library has a
wealth of information in the books, publications and
magazines.
- Look at your
business community and service organizations. Chambers of
Commerce and Rotary Clubs for example may provide
information on companies they are affiliated with.
- Calling organizations is
essential, but you may get ahead by going to them and
checking their notice boards and speaking with personnel
or human resource staff.
- Creating a strong network
is important.
Involve family members, friends, acquaintances, neighbours,
for example, in your search. Any information you access
will be an asset.
- Contact individual
organizations (the telephone directory can be very useful)
- College graduates should
keep in touch with campus job placement facilities. Local
employment agencies are also a good place to search.
- Use the Internet widely.
Post your resume and job needs; and visit all the web
sites that will aid your search.

containing dates of previous employment, schools attended,
names addresses and contact numbers for referees. This ensures
that you provide correct and consistent information and saves
time.

as this could give the employer a reason not to hire you.

your application letter
properly as it is "the ticket to your interview."
The application process is important because:

sees you.
*From your letter the employer will have an idea of your
spelling and writing skills, how well you follow instructions
and the pride you take in your work.
*The information you include on you application letter will
assist your potential employer in deciding whether to select
you for an interview so ensure that your skills and
qualifications are correctly represented and completed.
